Frequently Asked Questions

Does the CCPA apply to my business?+

The CCPA applies to for-profit businesses that do business in California and meet one of three thresholds: $25M+ annual revenue, buy/sell/share data of 100,000+ consumers, or derive 50%+ revenue from selling personal information.

What's the difference between CCPA and CPRA?+

The CPRA amended and expanded the CCPA effective January 2023. It added new consumer rights, created the California Privacy Protection Agency, and introduced the concept of sensitive personal information.

What are the penalties for non-compliance?+

The CPPA can impose fines of $2,500 per violation or $7,500 per intentional violation. Consumers also have a private right of action for data breaches with statutory damages of $100-$750 per consumer per incident.
